The 4 “Innocent Habits” that are shortening your cat’s life
Anyone who loves their cat would do anything for their well-being. Yet, driven by the best intentions, many of us make the same dietary mistakes every day—often misled by unclear marketing and widespread but incorrect beliefs.
After analyzing thousands of cases and consulting top feline nutrition experts, we identified the 4 most common mistakes. Recognizing them is the first step to radically improving your four-legged companion’s quality of life.
The 4 most common mistakes
Mistake #1: ignoring the “small” signs
An occasional regurgitation, a bit of dandruff, an itch that comes and goes. Many owners dismiss these symptoms as “normal”.
The truth is they’re not. These aren’t quirks—they’re the first faint warning signs your cat’s body is sending you. It’s their way of telling you that something, at a digestive or immune level, isn’t working as it should. Ignoring them means allowing a small imbalance to turn into a chronic—and potentially more serious—problem.
Mistake #2: trusting the marketing on the package
Images of golden roast chicken, happy cats running through fields, huge claims like “Premium”, “Natural”, or “Vet Recommended”.
The pet food industry is a master at selling you an illusion. But the truth is almost never on the front of the package. It’s hidden, in small print, in the ingredient list. That’s where you discover that the “delicious chicken” is actually a vague “meat meal and derivatives”, and that the recipe is packed with corn, wheat, or other low-cost fillers that are harmful to their health.
Mistake #3: underestimating the danger of carbohydrates
This is the most serious mistake—the one that, without exaggeration, can shorten your cat’s life.
Remember a fundamental biological truth: cats are obligate carnivores. Their bodies are made to live on animal proteins and fats—not carbohydrates (like grains, potatoes, or legumes) that are abundant in many industrial kibbles.
A high-carb diet isn’t natural for them and can have serious consequences: it increases the risk of obesity, promotes insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus, puts the pancreas under constant stress and, over time, contributes to chronic inflammatory states that compromise overall health. In addition, when carbohydrates are paired with dry food (kibble), poor hydration worsens urinary and kidney health.
In other words, even if carbohydrates aren’t “poison”, for a cat they remain an unnecessary burden their body wasn’t designed to handle.
Mistake #4: believing all “proteins” are the same
Reading “35% protein” on the label means nothing if you don’t know where it comes from. Proteins derived from corn, gluten, or “animal meals” (an undefined mix of slaughter by-products) have very low biological value for a cat.
Their body struggles to digest and absorb them. The proteins they need are the “noble” ones, coming from fresh meat and muscle—the only ones truly able to support lean muscle mass, maintain a healthy physique, promote a healthy coat, and strengthen the immune system.
From awareness to the solution
If you recognized yourself in one or more of these points, the good news is that there’s one solution—and it’s simple: offer a diet that respects their true nature.
It’s from this simple truth that the philosophy of Felinus was born.
Unlike the vast majority of products, Felinus doesn’t try to be a compromise. It was formulated to tackle at the root the problems we’ve just seen:
- Fixes mistake #3 and #4: with its 80% real, high-quality fresh “Human Grade” meat—one of the highest percentages on the market—it’s highly digestible and irresistible to a cat’s instincts.
- Fixes mistake #2: with a short, clear, honest label—no hidden ingredients, no meat meals, grains, or legumes.
- Fixes mistake #1: its low-temperature drying method preserves nutrients, resulting in a formula that puts out inflammation instead of causing it—bringing visible results in coat, digestion, and energy.
We’re not talking about simply “better food”. We’re talking about a paradigm shift—giving your cat what their biology evolved to eat.
